Bio

Jenny Plaister-Ten and Carol Whitaker are practitioners, researchers, lecturers and authors who have collaborated to explore the impact of unconscious bias upon global leaders and coaching/mentoring practice. The result is a fun and engaging approach to developing heightened awareness about the impact of bias – particularly cultural bias.

Session

A fun and interactive approach to some tough issues. We will explore recent events including Brexit, the US election, the rise of ‘the Right’ over Europe and other world events that have had the impact of polarisation. We will share our experience of encountering unconscious bias and recent findings from both social science and Neuroscience that shine a light on this human condition. As coaches and mentors , our clients may sometimes encounter blocks to their career progression because of unconscious bias, or they may be ‘leading in their own image’. Raising awareness will give them more options and choice in how they combat it. We will look at the implications of cultural bias in the work place and what global organisations can do to be more effective, to accommodate and benefit from difference. We will share tips, tools, experiences and models, including Jenny’s Cross-Cultural Kaleidoscope that takes a systemic perspective at both team and individual levels.

The takeout from the session will be an increase in perspective upon how to leverage the differences in a diverse or multi-cultural team or context. This will help to build stronger teams, engagement and business growth. Coaches/Mentors will also explore their own biases and work to unlearn them.
